How much would it cost to put a back door in the garage?

the house that we are getting is pretty much plywood and siding...how much would it cost (minus the cost of the door) to put in a door to get to the back yard? how would you do it alone (no carpenter)??THANKS

  1. It really wouldn't cost much, but you need to know a little bit about framing. Basically you need a saw to cut the hole for the door and the proper size header and framing for your particular garage. Try a few estimates. It probably isn't as bad as you think.


  2. Most handy men will do it for about $60 to $100.  I would not recommend that you do it yourself.  Too many little details to go wrong.  Just cutting the hole wrong will be a expensive mistake.  You have to cut the siding perfectly, and trim it out.  

    Parts will be about $100 to $200. (Depending on quality and your location.)

  3. Maybe a little bit like 25-30 dollars for all the framing of the door some shims, and just need to research framing to make sure you do it right, then Of Course the Door, which is like 80 to 100 dollars, unless it is an expensive one, overall, prolly can expect to pay around 150-200 dollars after all the extras you pay for...
