How much would it cost to repair a clutch on a Harley at a shop?

I have a Harley 2007 Sportster 1200 Custom and the shop is saying it will cost them at least $400 to repair the clutch. Is this right or are they overcharging me?

If it's a 2007 it should still be under warranty or why the heck didn't you buy the extended service plan, it would have been covered, also, I just bet the side cover on the left side was leaking and caused this in the first place...

Call Harley Help line or talk to the warranty department. It should be covered as a factory defect.

a worn clutch isn't warranty, isn't on cars either... you can f*ck up a new clutch in a day if you don't know how to run it

sounds expensive.... for a new basket and the whole shebang, parts would be tough to go over $300, only takes an hour and i doubt they are $100/hr, i also doubt you need the whole shebang.  $400 should be the max, not the at least

sell or trade in the `HD while it still has some value

then buy a high quality, reliable Japanese Cruiser bike

I'd love to see those parts as cheap as some here quoted- new clutch basket is expensive and labor at a dealer usually runs closer to $75/hour.

$400 is not necessarily too bad.

To much.  Do you have a wet clutch in the HD.  If you do, did you recently change the oil.  My Roadstar has to have oil that doesn't have any fuel conservation additives, it makes the clutch slip

it would help to know what all they have to do/replace.... if they're pretty much replacing it all, then no, that is a fair price.

Your getting a raw deal. If you can't do it yourself, take it to a family run shop and not only get a fair shop price, but you will also build a good relationship with that shop.

It's sounds to me like it might just need adjusted. If you didn't try that, I would before replacing it.
