I am an Australian who will be living in London for 2 years.

I'd love to spend Christmas in Paris, and need some basic information on how much the travel from London to France would be, and the cheapest accommodation?

Any help would be appreciated!

I have never travelled before and leave for London in two weeks, am on a desperate mission to get my hands on any information I can, so it's all a little less intimidating!

  1. Europe is very expensive.  London and Paris are probably the worst.  A room in Paris at Christmas, if you are on your own and don't require anything fancy wil cost you at least 75 Euros, for one person

  2. Normally I would say 'If you need to ask this question you can't aford it. Paris is expensive and Paris over Chrismas is bankruptsy. However, as you are Australian there could be work arounds.

Cheapest route is bus and ferry. Its not too uncomfortable and if you shop around Earls Court you should get a ticket at less than a Sydney-Darwin return.

Cheapest accomodation used to be in some of the church crypts and railway station waiting rooms, but I'm not sure what the 2008 situation is. If there are any hotels or hostels with vacancies, you probably won't want to stay in them, but the important thing is not to worry about accomodation. Get yourself to Paris first and do the worrying later. Something is bound to turn up. Damit man you're an Australian aren't you? Intimidating isn't a word in the Australian dictionary.

  3. I don't really have an answer for you, but if you did go to Paris for Christmas, don't go for a cheap hotel. They are c**p. I went to Paris for 2 days and stayed in a hotel in Montreuil which is in Paris but it is the ghetto side and I did not know that. I stayed at the Premiere classe hotel. It was 50 Euros a night. And I left the hotel with my luggage closed and came back and it wa s slightly open >:|. So stay somewhere in Paris not towards the suburbs. It will be expensive, but it will be worth it :)

  4. If you don't want to spend too much money for your hotel in Paris, avoid :

these districts : Paris 1, Paris 6, Paris, Paris 8,  which are expensive.

In the meantime keep in mind that when there are exhibitions in Paris higher charges are rated. (you can have a look at www.parisexpo.fr

to get the dates of exhibitions.)Hotels prices are free in all categories, nevertheless 2 and one star hotels are not expensive. The hotel Home Moderne in Paris 15 has room from 45 euro : www.homemoderne.com

Have a look at the 2 and 1 star hotel : website : www.parishotelsparis.com, I think you will find not expensive and nice hotels, for your stay in Paris.
