  2. Go. Do whatever it takes. It's the most beautiful place on the planet. When I went, everything was really cheap. But that was before the age of the euro. So I don't know anymore. We stayed at Hotel Lodos (or Hotel Londos... the hotel and its keys had conflicting spellings).

    It's great.

  3. Santorini is amazing, I was just there under a month ago.  I actually found that it was one of the cheapest vacations i took.  I took a ferry from athens.  It was about 12 hours and cost 30 euros for deck passage.  That is pretty much the price for all of the ferry lines, but i went by anek. The ship was really nice - almost like a cruise ship.

I stayed in a hostel there.  Look into Stavros Villa.  It is in Karterados which is about a 20 minute walk to the main town of fira.  The villa was amazing.  Stavros himself picked us up from the ferry terminal at 5 in the morning and drove us to a bakery for breakfast. The room we stayed in was more like an apartment.  It had two bedrooms and a bathroom and kitchen for only 11 euros a night!!! You can book this hostel through hostelworld.com.

Food is not too expensive.  It is touristy, but we were able to buy food from the grocery store because we had our own kitchen.  Sight seeing is a little pricey, but really there isn't that much to have to pay for.  You can go on a tour of the volcano or ride a donkey, but most of the santorini experience is wandering the villages.

When you go (because you have to go!) make sure to check out oia at the north end of the island.  It is gorgeous and has the best sunsets in the world.

Santorini is well worth your money and you can make your holiday there as cheap or expensive as you want.  There is soo much to see and do.
