  1. For a more personalized stay, you might want to consider a Bed and Breakfast. Guadalajara has a number of nice ones ranging in price from $70 to $150. If you come down to the Lake Chapala area there are an assortment of B & Bs ranging from $35 to over $120. The food scene is wide and varied both in Guadalajara and Lakeside.

Get a copy of Mexico's Lake Chapala and Ajijic: The Insiders Guide by Teresa A. Kendrick. It lists dozens of day trips and included quite a bit about Guad as well as Lakeside.

  3. I can't tell you travel cost because I don't know where you're flying or driving from.

Your hotel will probably be in the 70 dollar range. See the Vista Plaza del Sol Guadalajara (first link below) at $79 per night, or the Santiago De Compostela (second link) at $73 per night.

The Vista Plaza del Sol Guadalajara is on the west side of the city and Santiago De Compostela is downtown.

After your plane ticket, your hotelroom will be your next biggest expense.  And then after that food and drink is your next biggest expense.  So at the front desk of the hotel you can ask to reccomend a restaurant that's "bueno y barato" (good and cheap).  And they probably can direct you to a good place.

Then you have to decide if you want to take any tours.  If you like tequila, the Tequila Tour would be a good tour.  If you just want to do some shopping, you can just take a city bus to Tlaquepaque and investigate all the shops there.

  4. about $300 for hotel
