I know that is a somewhat silly question as every artist is different, but i will describe it as best i can.

I want to get a design done on my upper arm (top to elbow-ish in size) and i am thinking of the main focus being a man standing in a doorway (just like the cover to the exorsist) and you can see the door opens into a spiraling mountain path with dead trees along the way. the road ends into a burning throne (empty). i havent thought about colour so for the moment it will just be black. As you can tell it should be quite detailed. what do you think?

  1. Normally I get rather abusive to people asking this question, but you have actually given a lot of detail to work with - except which country you live in, which is fairly important! (You spell "colour" with a "u", so I'm assuming you're British.)

The overall size, placement and detail sound very similar to two of my tats each of which took roughly 8 hours each, split into three sessions plus 1 touch up. The artists both charged £65 per hour but didn't charge for the touch up session, so they came to around £480 each.

Both my tats were done within the last 3 years and I know that their prices haven't altered at all. Obviously it depends which part of the country you live in and whether it's a town or a city (I got mine done in a small West Yorkshire town) and whether the tattooist is any good or not! You should be paying between £450 and £550 for what you've described, but the only way to be sure is to research your tattooist properly and then get them to quote! But remember - with tattoos you get what you pay for.

    Good Luck.

  2. £350-500

shouldn't be more than that seeing as you're discarding colour

it sounds like an awesome tattoo

  3. Lame.  They don't wash off you know and in a few years you will be ashamed of what you get there.  Be smart and just say no.

  4. id say thats a pretty big tattoo and dont forget they will only do ur tattoo for so many hours in the chair so u will have to keep coming back im guessing ur from the u.s but here in uk that would cost around 400 mark maybe more it depends and my tattooist is the 10th best in the world

  5. Theres too much detail for it to be on your arm as the more detailed it is the bigger it has to be, so if you want it on your arm you might have to have it simplified, either that or choose a larger part of skin. Go to your tattooist and take some designs with you

  6. take a look at the link below.... my tattooist did this (in Derby)....

is this the sort of idea??
