Question:

How much would some auto body repair cost?

I have some damage to my car that doesn't prevent me from driving it, but it doesn't look pretty and if it doesn't cost much I think I'll get it fixed. The damage is some markings that cover half of my driver side front door and 3 inches of the driver side rear door. The width of the damage is only 6-12 inches in spots. It is a silver Saturn ION.

One place I took it to said that it could be fixed with wet sanding and buffing. There would be no need for paint. The estimate came up to $400. Is that right? I've never had to do this before so I don't know if that is a good price or not. If that is close, I won't waste my time and get anymore estimates and just live with it, but if that is way high, I'll do some more checking.

  1. In our body shop we often wet sand and polish marks like that for free when dealing with a pleasant customer.$400 is outrageous.Maybe you should shop around and let the estimator know that you aren't looking for perfection, just an improvement, and you were thinking about spending as much as $50,cash.

  2. Body work isn't cheap...that's probably about what you'll get charged anywhere, unless you plan on doing it yourself.

  3. Try visiting an auto repair shop in your area. http://www.autorepairshoplocator.com They can help you with your questions. Try vistiting a few shops and compare what they say.
