I am planning to do the four day inca trail in the month of september. First, is it a good time of the year for the trek ? also when i checked in wiki travel, it mentiones that the four day all inclusive trek would cost one not more than US$ 500. However, when i am going through a few travel company sites in Peru (e.g. www.peruandes.com) they all are quoting prices around US$1000.

Can someone please tell me how much an all inclusive four to five days (with a return train to Cuzco) cost me ?

  1. I did this in 2004 and paid a lot more than $1,000 because I wanted more luxuries. It can cost you anywhere from $300 to $2,500 depending on the type of porters, tents, horses, beds, food, etc. you want available.

I like to go in as much luxury as possible without sacrificing the experience, so I would say $1,000 total for you is reasonable if you cut out some extras.

It is so worth it, hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

  2. Hello, I worked for a travel agency in Peru and I can tell you that the difference in the price must be the "included services" Read carefully because the $1000 tour could include accomodation in Cusco the previous and last day of the inca trail excursion, round trip airticket (LIM/CUZ/LIM), and the train must be different from the one offered to you by Wiki Travel. Take into consideration that there are different kinds of trains: Local, Backpacker, Autovagon and Hiram Bingham, the last one is very expensive and luxurious. Also they could include accommodation  and transportation in Lima.

I think that the pice of $500 per person for the 4-day Inka Trail ONLY is fair. Accommodation, transportation and air tickets ot Cusco must be additional services.

I suggest to ask your travel agent to describe all what the $500 includes. I imagine that they are giving you an itinerary and everything. Is this travel agency offering accommodation the day before you begin the excursion? I think you should stay one night in Cusco so that you can get adapted to the altitude.

September is OK to do the Inka Trail. You should avoid rainy season (December till March) and the whole month of February, the Inka trail is closed.

Have a very nice trip and enjoy Machu Picchu as much as you can!!

  3. We took the train from Cusco and enjoyed it. We saw alot of hikers and they didn't look like the $1,000.00 types so I know it can be done cheaper. Dave seems to have the right answer for hiking .

  4. Hi

We used http://www.sunriseperu.com/inca_trail2.h... when we were in Peru  twice in 2006 and other inlaws are using them this week as well.  theyhave a 4 day inca for $390 so I would take a look at that.   GAP uses Sunrise as a subcontact partner sometimes for their trips.

September is a great time to go.. It is in the dry season

    Dave

  5. YOu're better off booking the trip here in Peru.  Prices are cheaper than if you do it abroad.
