I know it is a little early, but I was already starting my plan for holiday baking this year. If you knew how much I baked, between the cookies and candies and cakes and treats, you wouldn't think I was crazy for starting my plan already. Every year for the holidays I bake pumpkin cheesecake. Over the last few years more and more people have been asking what I would charge for a whole one for them to have at their family dinner and such. Keep in mind that this is a 10 inch cake with a pecan crust, 3 to 4 inch tall cake topped with real whipped cream and then sprinkled with fresh homemade cinnamon roasted pecans. The whole thing weighs in at about 8 pounds, and can easily be cut to serve 16 to 20 people. Cutting it smaller than that is still a good dessert, but it is hard to make the pieces look nice. The cake actually takes 2 days to make.

My delima and question to all of you is how much would you pay for a cheesecake like I just described? Any offer will help me decide what to charge. After I get several answers, I will post how much I was thinking of charging.

  1. 1$ a slice

  2. That sounds delicious!  I worked at a bakery for a few years, and we would sell a 9 inch New York Style cheesecake for $25.  I would say you should expect to get AT LEAST that much for yours.  Especially being 10 inches with all of the homemade touch.

    Good luck!

  3. Hello,

Christmas tree's are started in September so your not that early!!

Well per slice I have seen places charge over $2 bucks a slice! Unless you can buy your ingredient cheap I personally can not see you making money at this.

    What is your time worth?

You have to get your ingredient paid for. In business you times this by three but this is not baking......

Even the big stores charge almost $30 bucks for assembly line cakes. About a 4" cheese cake was $10 bucks and not home made or fancy like yours  ......Whatever you charge make sure it is worth your time.

    Sounds really good!!

  4. 20 bucks - sounds yummy!

  5. 12.00

  6. My daughter and I always make our own pumpkin cheesecake;  sometimes we make it marbled with chocolate too....  Considering that you're using 4-5 8-oz. pkgs of cream cheese (which is expensive), plus pecans (which are expensive), you'd need to charge at least $20-$25 to make it worthwhile (for your time and expenses)....

  7. Oh my gosh that sounds really good. I'd pay about 10 dollars for something like that, but that is only because i am broke. I wouldn't think it was odd to see something like that for around 20 or 25. maybe more because it is homemade. I would say 20 dollars would be good, especially around the holidays when people spend so much.
