Im thinking of down sizing my herd a little i currently have over 20 horses that have to be fed twice a day and that gets to be very expensive so what would you pay for these horses

The first one is a 3 yr old registered mare she is halter bred sired by classic skipper and out of a daughter of mr. yella fella

She is broke to ride and very fast yes not typical for halter horses but she is very cowy and has tracked a lot of cattle

She has had 4 months of western pleasure training and has been worked on the barrel pattern you can crawl under her ride her bareback she has been on the trails nothing bothers her So how much should I ask?

  1. the first one doesn't know much maybe $1500

second is very nice this one my favorite $2000-2500

I would buy the ropin one if you lived here

the 3rd  he is nice, doesn;t know anything I suppose    1500-2000$

thats the price from new mexico

  2. I'm in CA, and I've seen horses like these go for around $5000 when taken for showing purposes, etc. I personally like the first filly best; she's gorgeous, and sounds reliable and young. I'd pay around $3000 for her, $2700 for the mare, $2700 for the stud, out of both preferance and training. However you could probably get more for them out here if you sold them to a western-based breeder/shower.

  3. well for the first one:

around $3000.. idk if the market in texas is like here in michigan.. cuz up here it sucks.. but if its good.. maybe $4000

    second:

    around $6000

    3rd: around.. $5000

    fourth.. : around $4000

thats if the market doesnt suck

  4. It would greatly help to know where your located at as that makes a huge difference in how much horses will bring. These look to be well bred horses that a couple years ago would easily sell for $4000-$5000 here in the South. Now I'm not so sure you could get that.

Right now the horse market is very down even for top quality horses, because of the high costs of keeping them (hay, grain etc) and gas it seems everyone is letting some of their good horses go for really low prices just to move them fast. The market is literally flooded with 'good' horses right now and not enough good owners looking for them.

Regarding the stallion, he'd most likely sell better as a gelding IMO. It would really open up the his market to the Amateur Cutting riders who want a good solid mount to  start showing on. If he's not been ridden or shown lately it's doubtful a big time promoter or breeder would be looking for him since there are so many people wanting to pay them to promote their horses.

Really don't know what they would bring where I'm from but for reference I recently picked up a seasoned AQHA gelding, proven Youth show mount, that had over 100 AQHA points in Western Pleasure, HUS & Showmanship, trained up to 3rd level dressage (Has ROM in Youth WP) for $1500, he sold for $8,500 as a 4yo.

He's dead sound with no training, attitude or lameness issues. Now he's being used as my kids weekend show mount and a trail horse. Just a sign of how poor the market is right now.

Edited to add...just saw your price list. Good luck selling them. If you feel they are worth that much to you then certainly that should be your asking price. Personally if they were mine and as nice as you say, I'd keep them.

Right now the only market in our area that is still selling pretty  good is the very top level $30,000 to $50,000 and on up horses. Those that have been promoted on a National Level like you say these have been so you should have pretty good luck.

  5. wow i loved MO! :))

    around here(texas)

for mo id pay up to 8000..

  6. Probably around 1500 to 2500.

    In Louisiana.

  7. HMM. It's hard to tell what you'd price a horse at seeing as you never listed LTE, GET, or awards for any of these horses. Also, just because their half or even full brother won money doesn't mean that your horse is going to. Great bloodlines do not make up for sucky conformation and sloppy training.

And hun, I've paid $80 for a horse that you could crawl under, put a kid on, and let out in the pasture for months on end and then bring up to rope and ride. Good horses come at all prices.

  8. I probably wouldn't pay over $8,000 for any of them, the last mare seems like the best. I really like hte stallion, and I'd take him in a heart beat. (: I'd be willing to pay more for him.

But the horse market scks right now.

  9. Here in Cali where i am at. I just got 5500 for a finished heel horse that has won lots of money. You will not get the asking prices around here for any of the horses. People know that prices are down and will not pay more uless they dont care about money.

I have a 3yr old filly that is breed out the booty for barrels and looks just like your and I paid 800.00. You will have them for sale for a long time trust me.

  10. 2,000  3,000    5,000   8,000 in that order

  11. $3,000, $3,500, $4,000 and $7,500 in that order in Oregon.

I didn't mean to offend you, sorry. I don't show my horses so my prices would be for working ranch horses and you DID ask what would "you" pay...and that's what I'd pay.

I think you should market Tilly as a barrel horse. Get a good pattern on her and put a big sticker on her. I think that would be more profitable than selling her as a show horse.

That's the only way to train a barrel horse! I never run mine unless I'm at a race as well. Truthfully, I like to go rope or work cows off him before a race and get his mind completely off of it.

Where are you going to advertise them?

At barrel races, I have seen "for sale" written on horses as they run them. That's a great advertising method. As far as a larger market goes, I would definitely put Tilly on www.barrelhorse.com or www.dreamhorse.com. You can put all of them on www.dreamhorse.com (make sure to include good videos!) and drastically increase your sales area. I would definitely go the internet route. You seem to be internet saavy anyway. ;o) Good luck!
