Question:

How much would you pay to go to the moon?

Am I the only one that thinks a trip to the moon would be a big yawn? We hear these stories about rich people prepared to spend millions of dollars but how exciting would it really be? How long could you spend looking out the window at the Earth and saying "Wow look at that!"

I think I would be reading a book after about 40 minutes. Itseems to me that a lot of people still cling to the sci-fi notion that space travel will involve meeting aliens, discovering lost civilizations, time travel, parallel universes, etc. I think in reality it would be pretty routine and one moon rock would look much the same as another. What do you think?

  1. i would pay however much it takes! going to the moon is priceless.

  2. i would pay with my life to go to the moon. it would be so sweet to see the earthrise and to see the sun and the planets and everything

  3. I wouldn't pay **** to go to the moon, I wouldn't go if someone offered it for free. It is a giant white rock of nothingness.

  4. Haha, you're so right about the "meeting aliens" thing. If I thought any of that I would let you kill me here and now. But no, I do not believe in any of the sci-fi stuff and hate Star Trek. I would give everything I own to be able to go to the moon. But then again, I am a mass space nerd. I think that some people like it some people hate it! You have to think about it from the science point of view, I mean, what if our Earth becomes inhabitable? Trips to the moon mean discoveries and knowledge about the moon. If we destroy our earth with pollutants of nuclear weapons we are going to count on space nerds like me who will work at NASA to take us elsewhere. Like I said, some people find it amazing, and some people like you... think its a snooze! Haha.

  5. I'd probably pay up to about $50. Then again, that's about all I have.

  6. I wouldn't WANT to go to the moon.  I would be afraid to go up into space, I think it could be a phobia of some sort :)  Anyways, even if someone dragged me up there, I'd still find it fascinating.  It would also have me thinking about the meaning of life and all of that fun stuff.  I mean, it's not everyday you can make a trip to the moon.

  7. Taking the elevator up, walking across the catwalk, belting up into the seat, hearing the countdown, feeling the rumble, seeing the Earth drift away, watching the moon get closer and closer, taking that first step that only a few dozen people out of the billions to have ever lived... h**l, you wouldn't have to be an English major to turn that into a sellable book and recoup whatever you spend on the trip.

But you are right about the "now what?" aspect. The moon is a whole lot of dust and I don't like the idea of spending all that money to just stand there and watch the other astronauts do research. I would want to be part of the mission, contributing. If NASA came up to me and said "we want you to go to the moon but you need to drop what your doing and start training with no pay right now" I wouldn't even think.

  8. What ever I have... That would be a dream come true.

  9. i'd rather go to Mars

  10. i'm not a science fiction lover... infact i hate the stuff... but i would pay my life savings to walk on the moon. i'm an astronomer, and i would give almost anything (except my dog of course) to go to the moon. to be able to step foot on an object so foreign, yet so close. we look at it everynight, and wonder what the earth would look like on the other side. i would definately go there. i'm not the kind of person that thinks that aliens live on the moon. i consider my self a scientist, and a science fictionist.

  11. id pay 15million dollars for ten minutes...h**l the ride would be worth the money
