  1. The other poster gave you great information.  Frommer's has a book called Italy for 95 dollars a day.  I would recommend this book as well as Frommer's Italy. Rick Steves' Italy is a great book as well.

Budget wise 100-125 dollars a day per person is a good amount.

If you are planning to go to major cities, pick up Frommer's, Lonely Plant or Rick Steves'  books on the major cities  especially if you are going to spend a great deal of time in a particular city.

You will find a lot of information on budget hotels, inexpensive restaurants, saving tips, etc.

  2. It would depend on what level of luxury you need . I would say that if you stayed in 2 or 3 star hotels and bought lunch from a supermarket you could get away with 90 Euros a head per day. This would obviously also vary enormously depending on what part of Italy you visited and the period. Places like Florence, Rome and Venice would cost you much more. Puglia and Calabria would be a lot cheaper as are Umbria, Piedmont and the Marches.
