  1. It depends on whether you have a credit card that you can use to set up your ship board account.

Every thing you buy on the ship will be charged to your shipboard account, excursions, photographs, drinks at the bar, speciality restaurants, and anything you buy in the ships shops.

Just take as many dollars as you think you will need to use for the trips on shore for incidentals like taxi fare, drinks and souvenirs.

If you go to the ship's casino you can either use cash (dollars) or charge it to your shipboard account.

We usually take around £200 worth of dollars which is normally enough for general spending, everything else goes on the credit card.

If you're not planning on using a credit card, just cash, I would think that you would need to plan on spending a minimum of £600 to £800 on a 7 day cruise.

Alcoholic drinks are $5 to $9 each, bottled water $3 each.

Excursions are $60 to $140 per person

Photographs are $20 each from the ships photographers.

  2. On Royal Caribbean, your room key doubles as your 'charge card'. During embarkation, you can hook your room key up to your credit (the staff will ask you for your card). That will take care of anything you buy on-board, including drinks and shore excursions.

As for souvenirs, it all depends on where you're going and how much you're willing to spend. Some islands (St. Maarten, I believe) will sell fairly expensive jewelry at reasonable prices. Other islands, like Nassau have markets, where you can barter for lower prices. If you're going on a 7 day cruise, I would say around 750 american, to be on the safe side.

Also, some islands (Key West) often take credit cards.

    Have a great time!

  3. see if you can find a good travel agent. They have figures that are likely to help you concerning how much to take with you.
