  1. The cost of electricity generated from existing dams is relatively inexpensive.  The folks in the Pacific Northwest, which has lots of hydroelectric generation was traditionally one  of the lowest in the country.

Looking longer term though, dams are extremely expensive to build and have awful long term affects on river ecosystems - blocking fish migration, changing water temperatures and sediment conditions, flooding river valleys; all costs that are not factored in the cost per watt.

  2. It is relatively a cheaper method but again it has the most adverse effects on nature. This is how it leads to damage:

    1) To have a plant you need metal and metal is recyclable yet costly and using it has its own adverse effects.

    2) You need to build a dam which has the most adverse effects on nature.

    3) You need to compensate for the money you have spent and thus you might start a tourism industry which in itself is very bad way to earn money. And those who are doing it are robbers. Robbing nature of its aesthetic beauty.

So my suggestion to you is dont think of having hydro-power plant.

  3. Hydro power is one of the best renewable energy resources going.... it is fairly constant and reliable.... creates no waste and is cost effective if you dont have the crazy kooks run up legal costs for ya...... feel free to email me if you have a site and want to see if your site is viable....... chris k
