  1. Like people have said above, if you carry your bank's debit card with you, just go to an ATM/Cash machine and it will work. You may be charged something like $5 each withdrawal though, so don't make too many.

Just gotta make sure your card is Cirrus compatible. Just look on the back of your card for a blue logo that says Cirrus in the middle of it. If it has that, it should work everywhere in Australia.

  2. Don't they have ATMs and banks in Australia?  Just withdraw cash when you get there.

    What's mush money?

  3. I went to Oz with a friend in 1996. I spent, on average, GB£950 a month whereas my friend spent GB£875 a month.

This included travel to/from Australia, travel within Australia, accommodation (I stayed mainly in hostels but my fiend stayed in more campsites than I did), food and activities. My friend stayed in Oz to about 12 months whereas I stayed 10.5 months (including a 3 week side trip to New Zealand).

Given inflation, I'd budget spending for an average monthly spend of GB£1400. You'll have to fork up some of it up front to pay for flights out and insurance. Not all of the money came from our savings as we worked in Australia.

If I was going now, I'd make sure I'd have savings of about GB£15000 for the year. How much of these savings you use depends on how much you work, where you stay, what activities you take part in, and whether you eat out or cook in the hostel.

if you decide to work in Oz, open up a bank account there. You can then transfer money from the UK as needed.

I've given a handful of websites to start you off on your information search.

  4. Dude we have ATM down here.

Be careful how much cash you carry into the country, you dont want Aust Customs on your case.

  5. Please dont bring any cash.

just bring your credit card or any cards you have.

we have lots ot ATM here all over the street

plus is more safer and easier for you to bring ATM and no cash.

  6. That really depends on what you will be spending it on. ATM's will probably be easier though.

  7. You are only allowed to bring the equivalent of about $10,000 Australian dollars into the country in travellers cheques and cash. Customs get uptight if you try to bring more. make sure you have plenty in you bank account and be able to support yourself when you get here. You will also need a visa to cover the time that you are staying here.

  8. If you have to pay for housing, food, car rental etc and your not going to be working then you are going to have bring a lot of money. Figure out how much everything is going to cost you a month and multiply it buy 12 months.

If you are working , you will still have to figure out a budget, but you won't have to worry about bring a large amount of money into Australia.

Hint; ATMs will cost you an arm and a leg from a foreign country, so I wouldn't go that route. Good luck.

  9. Are you coming to Australia as a student or a tourist?  Do you have a visa for 12 months?

You could always get a working holiday visa which, if you use it, will get you a bit of extra cash.
