  1. I'm sorry, but more info, please.

"od" magnifying glasses?  What is that?

Are we talking about stereoscopic magnifying glasses?

Oh, "How do magnifying glasses work?" Oh.

magnifying lens have two convex surfaces. (They bulge out)

The two bulging surfaces cause the light from an object being viewed to refract through the glass (or bend) so that the original light carrying the image of the object to your eye is spread out uniformly, recreating the image on the other side of the magnifying glass at a larger scale of the original image.

What your eye sees has been magnified by the bending and spreading of the image across the lens.

If you were to use the opposite type of lens, a double concave lens, you would see the object as a miniature (smaller) of the original.

The curve of the surfaces of the double convex lens have mathematical focal points which predetermine the power of magnification.  The magnfying glass might be considered the world's smallest telescope with the first convex surface acting as the telescope lens and the second convex surface (toward your eye) acting as the eyepiece. Only, you can't really get a good look at anything distant, just close up.
