How often and how much do you feed a chinese fighting fish ?

Question

I got a chinese fighting fish for my birthday the other day and someone told me to feed him 2 times a week but that seems like a long time to me. So i'm wondering how often should I feed him?

and another question is how much should i feed him

I have the waedley essentials BETTA food and i'm not sure how much I should feed him because its the first time i have a fish and everything

Feeding him twice a week will give him enough nutrients to survive but not to live.

You could live on just twice a week but would you want to?? I agree with you that it is a long time to go in between. Oh BTW Betta's are from Taiwan

I have five Betta's and this is what I do:

I feed a varied diet of frozen blood worms, brine shrimp, glass worms. I also have Betta flakes as a staple food

I feed twice a day for 5 days, then on the 6 day they get nothing, 7th day they get a blanched skinned pea.

On the 7th day I also do the water change. The fasting a pea help to prevent constipation which is a common ailment for the betta

oh remember Betta's need to be in at least a 2.5g heated filtered tank.

you should feed your fish twice a day.

however, for the first few times, try different amounts and give it ten minutes to eat, if it finishes it all before that time...increase the amount given. If it finishes just around those ten minutes...then keep feeding that much. If the fish doesn't finish it b4 ten minutes, then you need to scoop out the leftovers and reduce the amount.

keeping food in the tank or bowl longer then ten minutes causes rotting and the production of toxins and ammonia.

**if the fish is not pooping regularly, then reduce feeding to every other day. or just once a day...and try to vary the food by adding worms from the pet store to its diet**

The proper term is Siamese Fighting Fish, Betta or Betta Splendens....

I feed mine every second day, their stomach is the size of their eyeball so feeding them 2X a week isn't going to hurt them... although I would do a little more then that

Fish in their natural habitat in the wild search for food constantly. They need to feed everyday to replenish the energy they use due to  constant swimming. Same thing in aquariums...our buddies are swimming constantly giving us entertainment and joy...feed him once in the morning and once at night. Put in a pinch of Betta food and see how fast he eats it, if he eats it quickly give him one more pinch. Do the same at night.

I would think that he can eat tuesday thursady and saturday. basically three times aweek. I would not feed him more then a few lil worms. like a pinch in half. not too much cause it will do more then over feed but he will have a dirty tank and you wilol have to clean it too much!

Put a small amount in the tank and see how much it eats. If it eats all of it give it a tad more. I feed mine 2 times a day
