  1. they are normal words and they are often used in the literature and daily life... "however" is more frequent of two but they both aren't lame at all

  2. I use them all the time. I enjoy having an extensive vocabulary. However, I am careful not to overdo this as it will give people the impression that I am a snob. Nevertheless they are part of my vocabulary, and as such I very much doubt that I will cease their use.

  3. nevertheless is rarely used by many, but i use it occasionally. however is more often used, and the more contemporary form of nevertheless. i dont think however sounds lame, nor does nevertheless. but nevertheless can sound pretty weird in certain contexts

  4. However doesn't sound awkward at all for informal conversation. However can be used in formal conversation also too. Nevertheless? Hmm, sounds strange though. It's definitely not because of lame or any of the sorts. It just sounded really formal. Sounded more like something that you can find a textbook(s). Just my opinion though.

  5. Hi,

"However" is used quite frequently in writing, less often in formal speech, and even less often in informal speech.  "Nevertheless" is used now and then in formal writing, especially by academics.  Older writings will use it more often than more recent writings.   I use nevertheless occasionally when giving lectures, but very seldom in informal speech.  These words are not lame.  "However" is very useful as conjunctive adverb in writing.   Frankly, I use "nevertheless"  in lectures when some other more common word does not come immediately to mind.
