  1. During these times it will be up to the DI's.  Usually once you arrive at basic, after a few days at reception, they will be able to call to say they have arrived.  After that if they do get phone privliges in basic it will usually be on Sunday mornings but it all depends.

AIT depends where they go and for how long.  Some places are more relaxed and allow cell phones.  If not they should be able to call during the night after school they are usual allowed free time.

  2. Basically the only time you get to call your loved ones is on sundays it seems like. My Boyfriend graduates from basic on AUGUST 15! during in prossesing i heard from him every night. then when he got to the actual basic training i didnt hear from him for atleast three weeks. some calls only lasted for 5 minutes but those five minutes ment everything to me. alot of soldiers think that by not calling it makes it easyer for both partys but let me be the first to tell you CALL YOUR LOVED ONES EVERY CHANCE YOU GET! also if other guys in training do anything to p**s the DS off you dont get to call home that day and depending on where you attend basic that whole week . hope that was helpfull:)
