How often can you shampoo your carpet?

Question

I HATE having a messy house. I was told not to shampoo the carpets more than once every two to three months. We have one cat, two ferrets, and three dogs, and I hate having to wait two months to shampoo the carpets. We love our animals to death and would never get rid of any of them for ANY reason...But what would happen if I shampooed the floors every month or maybe even more? Why do they say you can only do it "at the most" two to three months?

They say if you do shampoo that often you will wear out the carpet faster and it'll have to be replaced sooner.  I steam clean my carpet about every 3 months.  I have 2 big dogs who love to bring everything in from outside.  If there's mud in the back yard, one of them will find it!  I do have to vacuum about every other day though as I have asthma.  They say vacuuming a lot will wear out the carpeting, too.  Who knows.  I hate a messy house, too!  I probably wouldn't shampoo the carpet more than once a month.

i shampoo the kitchen carpet about ever 3-4 weeks with a powerfull machine, not done any real damage yet and used about 30L of RugDoctor shampoo on it over the last 2 -3 years

Edit: i have only washed that type of carpet with very bad results sorry :(

Once a year, maybe every 6 mo's

It will void any warrenties if you do it to often

It might feel good after you get it done but you're gonna have to replace it sooner.

If you get new carpet, get Nylon. Much softer

You can shampoo your carpet every month if you want to but the thing to keep in mind is that each time you do, you leave detergent residue behind. This can build up and actually make the carpets get dirty quicker. If you have a professional steam cleaner, it shouldn't be an issue. If you have a rug doctor or whatever, run it over your carpets with just hot water. When you dump the water, you will get an idea of how much detergent got left behind last time you shampooed.
