How often do Army personnel have to redo their marksmanship? Every 6 months? 12?

  1. It is supposed to be annually, but non FORSCOM units sometimes go 2 years without qualifying.


  2. The Army Standard is that Soldiers qualify with their weapon annually, but most deployable units require qualification every six months.

    Remember Commanders can always add to a regulation, but cannot take away from it. Another example is Combat Lifesavers (CLS); the Army standard is 25% of a unit be qualified as CLS, but many units maintain 50% or more qulaified as CLS.

  3. By regulation it's supposed to be twice yearly in the US Army for all soldiers.  That being said, if you're a super pogue then you may go one, two, or five years without using or qualifying with a weapon.  As an infantryman you'll go to the range and qualify sometimes 6 times in the same year, but by reg it's only required twice a year.
