  1. You should clean it every day to ensure no infections will harm the infants.

you should also give the rat alot of news paper for it to chew up and make a nest to give birth to the rats in.

when the rats are born, clean about every 3-5 days.

DO NOT TOUCH THE RATS! that means the mother will abonden them and they will die.

  2. Female rats are not a picky as some people would like to think. They will not abandon their babies if you touch them. Rats in the wild leave the nest to forage just after giving birth and move the litter soon after that.

I have had over 500 rats born to my michief and I have touched ALL of the babies from day one to the day they die. The only female to abandon her babies was the one who died due to a retained placenta, the vet did a necropsy and that was the only thing wrong with her.

I would clean the cage at least every week, more if it smells. If you gently move the babies into a shoe box size container with a little bit of bedding in it, they will be fine. Make sure mom gets to them asap or keep them warm yourself with a heating pad. Do give her LOTS of bedding, white un-printed paper towels is what I use so I can tell when there is blood or pee on them.

    Good Luck

  3. about 1-2 times a week. :]

  4. Once a day (unless you want to endure the odor).

  5. I use to work at a pet store, and the gerbil had babies right in front of me and I still had to clen the cage out. I didn't touch the babies with my own hands, but I scooped them up with a spoon because they're just so little. So if you don't plan on cleaning when the babies are there (you should though) you should definetly clean it before they get there. Just be gentle with the one that's pregnant

  6. if she has babies i would wait about 3 days or more maybe 4 and then start cleaning the cage every day. you have to get them used to your presents

  7. maybe twice every day for the next 4weeks then you should do 1 every 13 hours for the next3 days

  8. I wouldn't bother the baby's but when the rat doesn't have the baby's clean it every other week

  9. i wouldnt clean it for a while, cause if you touch the babioes the rat will kill it.

  10. clean it all the time before she gives birth, but after she gives birth then don't clean it until the babies are a little older and have better immune systems and make sure you wash your hands really well before and after you clean the cage or touch the rats because you don't want to give the babies and illnesses.  but after the babies are older then you can clean it about 1 time a week depending on how dirty the rats are.  i have a hamster and she only poops and pees in one corner of her cage so it is so easy to clean the cage i just have to clean that one corner.

    good luck with the babies!!!

  11. I would do it either every week or every 5 days. If there is not many I changed my hamster because there was one every other week and it just stunk to much,

  12. i have had 3 hamsters and a guinea pig.

clean the rats cage at least every week.

    at least.

  13. once it starts to smell or discolor.
