I mean how often (or after how long) do they come back home to visit their family for a while then go back.

Also, is there any mining engineer working in offices? or they all work in remote areas?

  1. The Roster system for mining people varies between countries and depends on the base location for the person. At the moment in Australia a common roster is 9 days on 5 days off, or 2 weeks on/1 week off. In Indonesia the roster is generally around 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off. If an aussie is working in Africa, the roster may be 3 months on and 3 weeks off.

Usually mining engineers working in the (head) office have already done their time working away and so have a more senior role. Some bigger organisations may have junior mining engineers working in their head office, but this would not be the norm.
