  1. If you haven't watched the movie Jarhead, you should do so.

Why not phone up a recruiter?

  2. Daily!

  3. 12 times a week.

Why are you thinking of becoming one?

  4. If they are good, from a distance.

  5. You are asking a loaded question and I don't want to give you the typical immature answer you see here from keyboard commandos.

Did you mean while they are already in combat or do you mean in general. You must remember there are sniper platoons and sniper sections throughout the Army and Marine conventional forces, then you have all the Special Operation forces with snipers out there. No one here is going to throw up stats on current ops, but trust me they are enaging the enemy with fires but also providing good and accurate intell for their commanders.

So it depends on the mission, there is no timetable or no others can post here that will make sense...I will suggest some books to read on the current war:

Ronin: A Marine Scout/Sniper Platoon in Iraq (Hardcover)

    by Mike Tucker

Long Rifle: One Man's Deadly Sniper Missions in Iraq and Afghanistan (Paperback)

    by Joe LeBleu (Author)

Sniper One: On Scope and Under Siege with a Sniper Team in Iraq (Hardcover)

    by Dan Mills (Author)

Trigger Men: Shadow Team, Spider-Man, the Magnificent b******s, and the American Combat Sniper (Hardcover)

    by Hans Halberstadt (Author)

Hogs in the Shadows: Combat Stories from Marine Snipers in Iraq (Hardcover)

    by Milo S. Afong (Author)

To Be a Military Sniper (To Be A) (Paperback)

    by Gregory Mast (Author)

FYI: I didn't conduct sniper ops, but served as an infantryman with my battalion snipers with me on many missions.

  6. never!

  7. Honestly, probably not a lot. Considering it's the snipers job to cover his comrades back from a building or from over 100 yards away. Don't apply if you don't have the intentions of killing anyone though, because there might come a situation where you have to.

If it's close quarters combat that you're worried about, then you shouldn't be worried at all, considering that really good snipers with the right equipment have been known to hit their mark from over a mile away.

    Hope this helps,

    J.O
