How often do people break laws without realizing it?

A lawyer told me once that it happens all the time. There are so many picky laws that you can scarcely get out of bed in the morning without breaking a few. Please give some examples of common situations in which people break the law unintentionally.

  1. All the time. People speeding on the highways. Not making complete stops at a stop sign. Running a red light (if it turns red while you are in the intersection, you ran the red light). Taking office supplies from work (even as small as a pen). And many, many more.

Most of these are so small that it isn't even worth it to prosecute. Going 3 MPH over the speed limit is illegal, but no court is going to find you guilty of it. And a company is not going to take the time and money to prosecute you for stealing a pen from them.

  2. VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy VeRyy   Oftenn (:

  3. Some traffic ones

Speeding (People just don't get caught)

Not fully stopping at a stop sign or stopping coming out of a parking lot (some just have this habit)

    Well, some other ones are....

    Lying to people.

But what I think what your lawyer meant, is that people do it out of habit, without knowing what they are doing is wrong.

Also, of course there are some goofy laws that the early lawmakers had to have to make a city/state. There is really no way to change them so they basically they leave them as is and don't enforce them. I have always wanted to eat a hamburger walking backwards on main street.

  4. You break laws daily without knowing it

  5. You do it always and about 5 a day. but small ones

  6. Happens all the time, particularly with old laws that just haven't been removed from "the books".

For example, in the area where I live, there is a very old "law" that states it is illegal to have s*x in any position other than missionary.  Yep, that's right.  Ridiculous, huh?  In this case, I am a repeat offender.  ;-)

Also, simple things like Jaywalking happen all the time.  I'd bet the most commonly broken laws are traffic laws like that...you know, not signaling, changing lanes in an intersection, etc.
