Hi. I work as a receptionist at a law office. I was just wondering how often people get raises? and how much is that raise? Also, say for the second raise would it go up from the first raise? (ex: first raise was .50 second raise .75)??

I started working there in August 07 and in Feb 08 I asked for a raise which I got.

Thanks

  1. It depends on the company.  Many businesses don't give out raises at all no matter how great a job you do.  They don't have to and just don't care.

  2. Like mentioned it will depend on who you are working for, but considering that you are working at a law office I would say after the 90 day trial period you should get about a $1 an hour raise and then every year you should have a review with your supervisor and a raise at that point.

It will all depend on your job performance, skill level, attendence, dependability, etc.

  3. i get a raise every year in January and it works off peformance rating throughout the year to how much extra i get. usually ranges from £100 to £500 but then we get a bonus as well so not all bad.

  4. My job is 30 days, 60 days, then 1 year. After that we get an annual cost of living increase of 3% usually.

  5. That is up to the people who own the company or organization that you work for.  Fortunately, there are no legal requirements or anything that forces them to give raises at set times or in set am mounts.  That aspect of running a business isn't regulated yet.

Ask your supervisor what is typical for your business if you really want to know.  I would recommend doing the very best job you can and see if that doesn't impress them enough to give you a raise without having to ask for it.  It's been my experience in jobs that I have always gotten raises and promotions without having to ask for them simply because I impressed my supervisors.

  6. for the past 3 years, it's been .50 cents for me.
