I captured a spider and was wondering how often it should be fed or how often they usually eat in the wild.

  1. In the wild, whenever they can and they are not already full.  In captivity I would feed them once a week.

Any idea what kind of spider it is?  Once I know that I can tell you more about keeping it and feeding it.

    Additional details:

That fly should do him good for a week or two, but can probably go longer without food.  You can tell if it is starved if the abdomen is small.  Also, the spider will need water, I suggest getting an eye dropper and putting a small drop (smaller than the spider) in the edge of the jar.  I would also suggest getting pinhead crickets from petco or petsmart.  2-3 should do fine once a week.

By the way, the species looks like a kind of ground spider of the family Gnaphosidae, possibly genus Gnaphosa.  You can tell by the spinnerets.

  2. whenever they get stuff in their web usually the roll the stuff up and eat before they sleep

  3. Some species eat most every day but other like tarantulas can go months between meals.  Most common spiders would do fine with a bug a few days after they finish eating the one they have.
