  1. Serious players will re-chalk their cue for each shot - it helps to keep the cue from slipping off the cue ball.

  2. the best thing to do is to develop an entire preshot routine.  Including chalking your stick.  I myself carry my own chalk with me, it's Masters chalk, and I carry 3 colours for the various places I play, red, green, and spruce (yes spruce is a green but it's darker than the green, and I don't carry blue so I don't mix mine up with house chalk or someone else's).  As part of my preshot routine, I walk around the table while chalking my stick, this lets me look at all of the balls and how they're positioned, I get to see if something is on a rail or just off, if two balls are touching, where they line up to, etc.  Then I set the chalk down, just to the left of where I'll cross the rail to shoot (I'm right handed so I use the chalk in my left).  I take the shot, pick up the chalk and start again.  Often after the first shot, I don't need to do a full walk around the table, but I still look at everything.  Eyeing every one of my balls to see which are problems and when is best to break my problems loose.

Find a routine that works for you, and includes chalking your stick, and you'll see your game improve.

  3. You should chalk your cue after each and every shot! I think the adage goes something like, when you're at the table assessing your next shot you should be "walkin' 'n chalkin'"..

  4. I    always    chalk    after    every    shot.    It    lessens   the   chance    of     miscuing     and    it    helps   me    mentally.

  5. i do every other shot
