Question:

How often do you change your 14 months old's diaper?

My 14 months old needs to have her diapers changed every 1h30-2hours max otherwise they leak. Is that normal? I use Pampers Cruiser size 3 (she's 23lbs). I tried going up a size, still leaking. I tried Huggies size 3 and 4, same thing. At night I now use Huggies Overnites which helps a lot, but what do I do during the day? I have to admit she drinks a lot of milk from her bottle all day. Could that be the reason? Your help is appreciated. Thanks!

  1. my son is 12 months i change it like 6 times! yes drinking alot of milk is a reason mine eats and still drinks an 8 oz bottle after each meal!

  2. WOW that is way too much!!!!!!

My son is 19 months and I change his diaper 4 to 6 times a day.  The amount of diaper changing you do is more than what I do for my 3 month old!!!

I would say that perhaps you are giving her too much to drink but if she wasn't thirsty she wouldn't drink it.  Maybe you should talk to her doctor about it.

  3. You may want to consult with her pediatrician about the amount of urine output.  I don't know what is considered to be a normal range.

My son is 16 months old and we have never had a problem with diapers leaking.  He has always worn Pampers.  He is in Size 5 now, and I would say he averages about 6-8 per 24 hours.

One thing you might want to try - Babies R Us sells diaper inserts - they look kind of like a maxi pad - you put them in the diaper for an extra layer of absorbancy.  We use them for his overnight diaper.  They are pretty effective and inexpensive.

    Hope that helps.

  4. It sounds like she's getting a little too much milk. At this age 16 oz or less is reccommended. Plus, it's not good for their teeth if they walk around with a bottle of milk all day. Give her water in the bottle and milk in a sippy cup at meals. I change my 14 month old son about 4-6 times a day. He poos a lot. lol.

If you are having a hard time getting her to eat solid foods at meal time- it also is a sign she's getting more milk than she needs. Best of luck! :)

  5. Yes when they drink a lot they pee a lot.  My cousins oldest son was like that he would be walking around with a bottle at 18 months old (drove me nuts) and he would pee every hour so much that it would leak.  My boys were off the bottle at 9 months so they wouldn't be drinking as much or something because by 14 months I could wait 2 hrs sometimes 3 between diaper changes with no problems and I used parentchoice or whitecloud diapers and didn't have leaks but they were still getting plenty to drink because they weren't dehyrdated.

  6. She should not have the bottle all day long.  Try this-when it is drink time, she gets up to the table, high chair, whatever-and drink there.  Don't let her carry it around.  As for the diaper leaks, switch to the store brand and change her as often as needed.  If she leaks with one, especially the name brands-she will with any.  So change them often.

  7. He goes through maybe 4 or 5 diapers a day with no leaks, we use Walmart brand White Cloud.

  8. Pampers suck!! We used them on my daughter when she was first born, then not again, until abour a month ago (She's 13 months) and I swear, they are not worth the money.

We are using the Costco brand and they are wonderful. We have to change her about 6 times a day, or less. They are just fine for overnight too.

With  my son, we used nothing but Pampers or Huggies, because, well..........you know........first kid.....has to have the best. But we learned that they are by far the most expensive and maybe the softest, but they have no soakage. My daughter actually STINKS after being in Pampers for about an hour. With the Costco brand / Walmar /Target brand diapers, while they are not as soft, they soak better

  9. When my son was that age he also drank all day long. In fact he is 2 and a half and still drinks all day. But that is too many diaper changes. I would bring it up to her doctor and see what she says. I have always used the parents choice during the day and huggies at night up until about  9 months ago and then even used those at night too and really he's only leaked a couple times.
