How often do you feel that you beat yourself?

What do you think your opponent is thinking when you beat yourself? Do you think that when your opponent loses, he thinks that he beat himself, rather than that you won because you played well (or perhaps a combination)?

  1. Shooter is right on here. If you get your turn at the table against a high caliber opponent you have to make the best of it. Your not always gonna walk up to the table and see a great runout waiting for you or see the perfect safety just waiting to be played but there is usually something you can do to better your chance of winning. If you don't do it then you may as well just pack up and go home. If I'm seeing things clearly but just not executing I'm not sure if I call that beating myself. I think in that case I'm just playing poorly. If thats the case then maybe I deserve to lose. But if I'm doing stupid stuff like miscuing or scratching on the money ball or getting way out of line all the time then maybe I'm beating myself? I dunno. Good question girl! c ya.

P.S. good to see ya Johnny.

  2. Like everyone else, getting outta line on an important ball that'll take me out has been the biggest reason I don't get out. Another would be trying to play safe and missing my spot by a silly millimeter leaving my opponent a window seeing ,just enough of his ball to make a good hit or even to make his ball.

And here's one I learned from Mountain Man. He told me that many times he losses a match because of faulty equipment, i.e. - the table rolls off, the bumper is bad or a rail is dead. That's the chance you take when not knowing the table you are playing on in tournaments.

The point is - know the table you are playing on and what and where the problems are. That way if there are any, you'll have a good idea of how to avoid them.

  3. I beat myself most of the time. The biggest challenge I have when I play leagues or for money is to calm myself down to a point where I can perform to my own standards. Lucky enough most of my opponents have the same challenge and I think I found a good handle on it.

My opponents probably do think the same, as long as they have a fair shot at winning.

  4. What the f*** you guys play pool for a living just because you cant make it into real sports you pick the gayest thing out there you gys are worse than bowlers

  5. Not to take anything away from any other players, but when I lose a game, it's usually because I had a turn at the table and blew my opportunity.  Either I got out of position and gave myself a much more difficult shot than I intended (although I try not to make a distinction between "hard" and "easy" shots), or I played a poor safety and left my opponent a good shot.  It's rare that I find myself in an impossible situation and can't possibly avoid a foul or that my opponent would break and run out, so that means that I almost always have at least one turn at the table.  Now when you're playing good players, that's all you can ask for.  I try to take full advantage of every opportunity that presents itself, but I'm not always successful.  Nobody is always successful though.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.
