  1. Well unfortunately there are many many out there. Many hot spots use open settings, some don't. The problem with using just ANY insecure network is that you do not know who owns it, what intentions they have, what may happen to you if you do use it.  The best advice I can give you is use ONLY Networks you know. There are ID thieves, just hoping you will connect to their open networks, there are others who are OK.  One other caveat. If you are in the US, Canada, the UK, etc using a network without permission is illegal. In fact in Florida and some other states its a felony so be very cautious.
