Question:

How often do you receive JURY DUTY summons?

I know according to law, a person can receive a summons to serve as possible juror once every 2 years. However, in the 18 years that have passed since I turned 18, I've only received a summons FOUR times! I'm not complaining! :) However, almost everyone I know claims it's very uncommon to get called so infrequently.

So, I thought I'd ask here -- how often (if at all) do YOU get summoned? By that, I mean getting the thing in the mail that you send back indicating that yes you can serve on the given week, or no you can't serve on the given week (and why). And then, when that given week arrives, you call the court every day to see if your juror number comes up, at which time you have to report to court and see if you're chosen for a case.

  1. I went 36 years without being called. I served 2 days last years which means I do not have to serve for 2 more years (2 years if you show up for a day, 3 years if you have to return).

  2. I've only gotten one summons in 20 years.

  3. I've been called 3 times in one year! I think it has something to do with how often you change your legal address (that year, I had moved), and whether you vote or register to vote. I know people who do not vote and have never been called.

  4. In New York State, it is eight years minimum. I have been called twice in my life (eligible for 34 years). So there's a certain degree of luck involved.

  5. I get them like clock work every two years

  6. In Cook Cty Illinois every 5-6 years

  7. I'm not sure but I received one and forgot about it and they sent me a letter with a warrant I might ad, their giving me another chance to show, but if I fail I will spend 90 day and 1000.00 for it. So you better show up.

  8. Every few years - I'm in a big city though.  I've gone in a few times but I've never been chosen to sit on a jury.

  9. I went for 10 years without getting one and my ex-wife would get them all the time.  No clue how this works.  Just figured it was governement workers involved so no rhyme or reason.

  10. I would call about why so many summons
