  1. It really is determined the extremity of your situation and how it is effecting your life.

if it is a kind of problem that takes you away from normal daily activities you'll have to attending frequently, if it's something that you find bothersome but doesn't take you away from what you need to do maybe every 2 - 4 weeks.

  2. Your therapist decides how often you have to see him or her.

  3. I am in the medical field and have a daughter who sees a therapist... It is based on the following ... severity of the mental illness or issue for which they are seeing the therapist for.. The availability of the therapist

willingness of the patient to want to open up

  4. People see therapists at different intervals depending what their situation is at the time. It is determined by BOTH the therapist and client. The therapist can suggest that someone see them more often or less often, but the final decision it made by the client. The client is the one who is ultimately in charge of what happens with their treatment.

I have clients that see me twice a week, sometimes five times a week, sometimes every two months. It truly depends on what the situation is and what the clients goals are.

If a client is making progress as they are working on a issue, they might start going a couple times a week so that they are able to resolve the issue. If the client is going to a therapist as a way to keep emotions in check or to make sure that they are staying on track they probably will go less often, 4-6-8 weeks.

There is no hard and fast rule that is set in stone about who sees a therapist how often.

Personally, I am working on some of my own issues and I am going twice a week.
