How often do your kids eat veggies?

My kids are so picky when I make a different meal from a new tried recipe. I'm not an experienced cook and only know a few things to make without a recipe like spaghetti and beef noodle casserole. With Spaghetti they eat cucumbers, and then I put frozen peas in the casserole. I ask them to help with the cooking but they get bored after awhile and don't want to help. I personally don't like to cook, it is like a chore and sometimes would rather have peanut better and jelly. But I worry about their health. I eat enough veggies a day, but how am I going to get them to do the same. My husband doesn't even like my food anddoesn'tt eat it. It gets me so frustrated.

  1. your a woman its your responsibility to cook for your family so tough it out and take cooking classes if you have to

  2. well im a somewat kid and i always eat wat im told to unless wat im told to eat is somethin like liver or somethin...

  3. You need to remember that you're the mom and what you make, your kids will eat! When I was younger, my parents made us (my sister and I) choose a veggie to eat every night and we couldn't watch tv or eat ice cream or even leave the table sometimes until we did! It was very affective.

I understand the issue of tired recipes and not being the best cook. So, you can't just get recipes out of magazines or off the internet. Buy a good book! And none of that Betty Crocker c**p (not as good as its made out to be, really). Go to a Border's or a Brans & Nobel and pick out a great looking recipe book. If you want to try stuff your family will love and will have fun with, try making pizza or Indian food (which, by the way, is a lot of the time mostly vegetable). Plan your meals a week in advanced and never remake stuff they didn't go crazy for (and on the other hand, don't remake stuff they good crazy food too often or they'll get sick of it).

However, even with all this great food, their father not eating won't help the situation. Talk to him. Say that you'll be attempting to make better food, so, you need him to eat the food his family does or your kids might stop, too. Also, depending on the kind of man he is, you can work out a certain amount of days he can cook and give YOU a break (give him recipes to work with or don't. It might be funny to watch him realize cooking isn't so easy)! Anything from one day (if hes a manly-man who doesn't want to be cooking very much) to three days a week. You can cook three, too, and the seventh you can go out to eat or make microwavable dinners!

    Good luck!

  4. My guys get veggies twice a day. An important thing for us has been to provide a big variety (especially garden fresh - so much better, so now's a good time to start!) and provide something they don't like at least once a meal. I make them take about a tablespoon or two and eat and swallow ;-).  Then their other food. Do it every day and then let them have the other healthy things they want. Example: whole grain mac & cheese, a PB sandwich, and asparagus. Small serving of all (1/4 sandwich?) and no seconds until they eat the asparagus. Make them clean their plates - but just put tiny amounts at first - then they can come back for seconds of whatever.

I also cream a lot of veggies - pour a southern "milk gravy" over while cooking, or yummier still, raw cashews, salt and onion powder blended in a little water. My kids like this...

they also like raw veggies with dip pretty well, especially 'Trees.'
