I always see IKEA sale ads for the US, but never Canada. Never really paid any attention until I moved close to an IKEA. Do they have sales often in Canada?

  1. Ikea has two "sales" a year, to clear out merchandise. One is going on now (usually mid-June until August, when the new catalog comes out) and the other is in December, with all the boxing day stuff...

In addition, Ikea runs promotions for a few weeks at a time for various living spaces. So, they have about 2 bedroom events/year, 3 kitchen events and 2 living room events.

Bedroom event is usually 20% back in gift cards on mattress/box spring.

Kitchen event is usually 20% back from purchase, or $100 in gift cards for every $1000 you spend

Living room is always sofas, not wall units, always the slipcovered ones, not futons: 20% back in gift cards, or buy one sofa, get one at half price (sofa= sofa, chaise, sofabed, loveseat).

Kitchen events are often January, May and October

    Bedroom, I can't remember.

Living room: August/September and then again in November or December.

The last few years, IKEA has also done "tax-free" weekends, where they take 13% (or whatever the tax is in your area) off all purchases, but that is up to the store region (Ottawa, Toronto, Alberta stores, BC stores). In Ottawa it was late July, early August, whereas Toronto stores had theirs in the fall.

All of this being said, Ikea runs weekly offers like any other retail store. Best thing you can do, is have them send you the flyer by email, or check the website for your store (ikea.com, click on canada, then choose the store) each week.
