How often does a child need a physical doctors exam?

I know there is a strict regime when they are little but I'm wondering now that my son is 6, what's the recommended guidelines for getting school aged children a physical or developmental exam?

  1. They should still get one every year. If they play any sports it's required anyway and if you have insurance then there is no reason not to take advantage of getting a check up once a year.


  2. After the 6 month incriment checkups when they are little, EVERYONE should get a yearly physical until they die.

  3. It's still a good idea to get an annual exam through childhood (and beyond).  However, if the child has no chronic health issues, and isn't involved in school sports, it may be feasible to do it less often.

    (My daughter has asthma AND is in sports, so she has always had an annual check-up.)

  4. It's a good idea to get an annual exam to make sure your child is growing properly and is healthy. Prevention is the best medicine!
