  1. every 18 hours.

  2. In the summer, it is dark from about 12:00 to about 3:00. In winter, we see the sun at about 10 am and it sets around 3 pm.

  3. In the winter time it gets really dark.  The sun doesn't rise until about 10 AM and it's already sundown at 3-3:30 P.M. Only 5-5.5 hours of sunlight.  Very depressing!  Not only it's depressing some people living in Alaska are suffering seasonal depression.  In fact many still do.

  4. Oh, every night when the sun goes down. Alaska is a huge state. The lightness/darkness difference changes the further north and west you go.

  5. It really makes a difference were you live in Alaska.  The further north you go the longer it is dark in the winter and light in the summer.  If you go far enough north then the sun never really sets. It is never overhead either.  It runs above the horizon and then at "night" it will dip just below the horizon and then come back up... could be why they call it the land of the midnight sun:)  Of course that also means that in the winter it only just pops up above the horizon for an hour or two in the winter.

Even the more southern regions are affected by the long days during the summer and long nights in winter.  Lets just say in the summer you use an eye mask to sleep and in the winter you have a high electric bill because you turn on every light to make yourself feel like it's still day.  I live in the southern most city and in the winter it is still pitch black by 3:30pm.
