i just got my period and i needed to know how often i need to change the pads.

Generally, every 2-4 hours. You can tell by looking at them. It is pretty easy to see when they are used up. It can vary depending on how heavy or light your flow is

That's going to depend on how heavy your flow is.  With pads, you should change them frequently to avoid any odor, discomfort, leakage, etc.  When the pad appears full, definitely change it.

Oh, jee.... I hated using pads, but when I succombed to using them occasionally, I would change them every couple hours to avoid "the smell."

Tampons tend to seem more hygienic to me.

i cant give you specific times to change, it depends on how heavy your flow is. But when it feels like its quite wet, or go to the bathroom and check. x*x
