  1. A blue moon is actually a name given to an irregularly timed full moon. Most years have twelve full moons which occur approximately monthly, but each calendar year contains those twelve full lunar cycles plus about eleven days to spare. The extra days accumulate, so that every two or three years there is an extra full moon (this happens every 2.72 years)

  2. The lunar cycle is 28 days, calender months average about 30 days. When 2 full moons occur during the same calender month, the second full moon is called a blue moon.

  3. Every time Krakatoa explodes.

  4. A blue moon is when there is two full moons in 1 calander month. Approx 2 times a year.

  5. Every time England win the world cup. I'm not bitter.

  6. The next Blue Moon is on November the 21st 2010 and thereafter the Blue Moon occurs once in every 2.72 years.

  8. 2 meanings:-

the first which is what most people use is the 2 full moons in calender month.

2nd meaning is when the moon looks blue. Happens because of dust in the atmosphere (caused by large volcanic eruptions etc) reflects red light most, leaving only red light to reach the Earth.

Calendrical blue moons are a little difficult to figure out, because of the varying length of months, especially difficult if want factor leap years in too. The time between full moon is about 29 1/3 days, and there's times when you'll get two in a month, and sometimes there will be no full moon at all in February.

  9. Once a year because there is 13 full moons in one year. Blessed Be.

  10. It shows up on my dinner table every Friday night, garnished with an orange, next to a half dozen spicy garlic wings.

  11. There are 12 lunar cycles in a year with about 11 days left over. A blue moon  occurs approx. once every 2 1/2 years when those extra 11 days cause two full moons in one month.

Different definitions place the extra moon at different times - the extra moon is called a "blue moon".
