How often is it best to have s*x during ovulation

Question

Hi,

I am a bit confused and have mixed signals about how often it is best to have s*x when we are ttc and during ovulation. Some people say go at it hammer and tongs ( which would make me think my husbands sperm would be less but fresh) others say every other day ( which makes me think more but less mobile maybe) Can anyone advise with facts?

some say every other day to give sperm time to replenish.  i have read that every day doesnt hurt. that way u are sure there is always sperm in there

I believe a woman is actually only fertile for approx. three days during the mid-point of her cycle.   So you probably would have good results with the every-other-day method.

some people say its best to wait two days between s*x so the sperm can build up. but it only takes one sperm, have as much s*x as you want, relax and enjoy... i also find it works wonders afterwards to lie flat for a bit and tilt your pelvis a little higher, put a pillow under your bum and let gravity do its bit, good luck and get baby making! x

To capitalize on your chances of getting pregnant you must first understand ovulation and why it is important for conception. It is the most fertile period in your cycle when the egg or ovum is released into the uterus. During this fertile period you need to make love every couple of days. By doing this you can almost double your chances of getting pregnant. Remember that the sperm can live for anywhere from 48-72 hours within the woman’s reproductive system depending on the how favorable the cervical environment is. Sexual intercourse every 2-3 days, around or at the time of ovulation, should be adequate to achieve pregnancy.

Only need to once! LOL! There are MILLIONS of sperm in ejaculate, and they live for days. But feel free to have s*x as much as you want, it doesn't take away from anything. Male sperm swim faster, but die sooner and female sperm swim slower but live longer. Since sperm can live for 3-5 days and eggs for 12-24hrs, if you want a boy then have s*x the night before ovulation, the day of, or the mornign after. If you want a girl, have s*x 3-4 days before ovulation and then STOP having s*x! Otherwise the male sperm will get up there too and you won't know what you're getting.

It really depends on your hubby's sperm count.  If he has a higher count, every day should be fine.  If his count is a bit low, then alternating days will give him time to replenish his stocks.

Every other day is definately the best way to go about it. Whilst its always more exciting to be 'spontaneous'...its a good idea to make sure you target your fertile peak by charting CM, BBT or even by using an online calendar. Start 3-4 days before your expected time of ovulation then every other day from here on, perhaps until 2 days after you ovulate to give you the best chances. Good luck!

Well, I used to work for 2 gynaecologists and they used to advise people to have s*x between 3 to 5 times a week during ovulation to maximise the chances of conception
