Why is it better for the cat. I was told it affects her movement but I haven't seen it. I 've let it go for a month and she gets around just fine.

  1. Clip them whenever you notice they are long and sharp.

  2. I totally agree with Debbie T. If you can't affored to do the vet, then you need to follow the instructions on the nail trimmer package. If your cat is finicky then try to do a nail at a time. There is nothing wrong with doing it that way. Your not supposed to let your cat get nervous and scared while doing it and it could hurt them unlike us. We do a nail at a time especially if they are finicky. If their sleeping that is the best time to do it. Especially if they trust you. Don't hold them down or wrap them in a towel. That will only make the trust between you two worse!

  3. Depending on how fast your cat's nails grow, the average time is usually every fortnight (2wks). Always be careful not to go too far down the nail and never cut where the nail is pink in colour, always cut with the nail and not across it and a good scissor type nail clippers for cats are better than the guillotine type if you are not used to cat nail clipping.

If you've never done it before, it may be worth you asking your vet to do it and show you how they hold your cat while they clip cat nails, that way you get shown first hand how it's done.

    All the best.

  4. It depends on the cat. Usually once a week or every other week is good. If you clip them regularly (without letting them get too long or sharp), it's better and easier for the cat. Just make sure you don't clip them too short and hit the quick.
