There's a saying that goes something like "once in a blue moon" and I am curious as to just how long that time period is! I am a professional astrologer and I should know this for my practice.

  1. like once a year...i think

  2. its just a saying ^_^

  3. The saying is derived from a very rare instance in where two full moons appear during the same month.  Normally, this only happens once a month, but sometimes the calendar and lunar cycle align perfectly enough to produce two full moons in one month.  The second "bonus" moon is called a blue moon, although it's not actually blue!  This process occurs approximately once every 2.72 years.

  4. usally once a year. but it can happen twice. Never three but that would be differnt.

  5. the most that there ever is is once a month um but usually like once a year

  6. A blue moon is when there are 2 full moons in one month. The blue moon is the second one. I couldn't copy the link but here's a great site with a lot of information. I hope this helps.

  7. As many have already stated, it is when two full moons occur in the same month. The second full moon is known as a "blue moon." The last time I remember this happening was July 2007.

  8. A blue moon is actually a name given to an irregularly timed full moon. Most years have twelve full moons which occur approximately monthly, but each calendar year contains those twelve full lunar cycles plus about eleven days to spare. The extra days accumulate, so that every two or three years there is an extra full moon (this happens every 2.72 years). Different definitions place the extra moon at different times - the extra moon is called a "blue moon".

  10. Its the 13th full moon of the year... like ever 2-3 years

  11. Yes, Every night.

It touches you in your sleep.

  12. A blue moon is the second full moon in a month.  Full moons come every 28 days (or so) and months come at an average of 30 days.  Take the difference and divide by the higher number and blah blah blah, 15 over 12....

Every 1-1/4 years there is a blue moon, on average

  13. The previous answerers got it right when they stated it occurs on the second full moon of the same month, and that on average, this occurs every 2.72 years.

There is, however, the odd opportunity to have two in one calender year (by the monthly definition, there is still NO way to have MORE than thirteen full moons in one year), in the odd event where, February, containing only 28 days (sometimes 29) and the moon having approximately a 29.5 day orbit around the earth...  If a full moon occurs on January 31st, it is already the second of that month.  It also means, that the next full moon should occur on March 1.  Making March 29 or 30 the second full moon in THAT month as well!  Such an occurrence happened in 1999, giving us two full moons in January, and two more in March.  February, was denied a full moon.

  14. normally once a year but it can happen twice

sometimes certain moons are called blue moons and sometimes full moons actually look blue

  15. Not often.  A blue moon is the second full moon of a month.

  16. According to the Farmer's Almanac, most seasons have three full moons.  Each additional full moon is referred to as a "blue moon."

    Additionally, Wikipedia states:

    "

Until 1999, the common definition of blue moon was the 2nd full moon in a calendar month (this was a misinterpretation of the Maine Farmer's Almanac in 1946 that became commonly accepted and was discovered in 1999).

    "

  17. Hmm. It happens rarely. It's when there is two full moons in the same month. It occurs when there's a full moon in the very beginning of the month, because that gives it a better chance to have another one by the end.

  18. A blue moon is the second full moon of the month.  They happen 3-4 times a year.
