I do my dogs about every two weeks.  I use a drumel tool.

depends on the breed and how fast they grow.  mine needs her done every couple of weeks.

Once a month is usually pretty good. Your groomer can do it for pretty cheap, we do it at my mom's grooming shop for around $5 for small dogs, $10 for big dogs. Filing themd own may cost a little extra. You could always look into that Pet-icure filing thing. It looks pretty much like a dremmel with a guard on it. I haven't tried it but it seems like it would work pretty well.
