  1. Many cars never have them replaced.  Push down on the fender above the wheel and see how well it bounces back. It should be short and sweet and not keep bobbing up and down. If it does have excessive movement (just compare it to a new car with good shocks), then get them replaced. they come in various firmness and some are adjustable so expect a variety of prices being quoted. Just know what you are buying - if you must.

  2. 20k to 50k at the most

  3. If you push down on the fender and the car bounces more then 1 or 2 times then they should be replaced

    Good luck

  4. depends on the area you operate the vehicle. smooth roads about 5 years rough about 2

  5. Depends. Factory shocks are usually good for 20 to 25K. Some replacement shocks have a longer life expectancy. Some even advertise "lifetime". They just don't specify whose life there referring to. I usually go by the 25K standard on all of them.

  6. This is one of those questions that will spark much debate on hotrod forums and such. Some manufacturers say 60,000 miles some say 100,000 miles. I usually replace shocks when they are worn out and ignore the mileage. Is the car riding really bad? The rear shocks are the easiest to test, since they are easier to remove on most cars. Pull one out and see if you can compress it easily by hand. Also it should move slowly in and come out slowly. If it stays stuck in its shot. If it hangs up in either direction its bent. If it is leaking fluid it is trash.

  7. Shocks typically need replaced anywhere from 5-8 years depending on use. Once the boot comes off the shock then the shock will start losing fluid and start wearing out.

Usually and you can can hear a solid knocking/clunking noise, it can be your shocks. I have a shock doing this on my car at the moment and my shocks are about 6 years old.

Hope this is helpful to you.
