Annually. (and preferably before OCTOBER 31st if a manual return or 31st January if submitted electronically, or there will be penalties.)

HM Revenue and Customs should send you a tax return once a year in April if you've registered for self-assessment.  If you work for  an employer and your tax is deducted from your salary or wages at source, you won't need to complete a tax return.
