How often should I water my aloe plant?

I just got a new aloe plant and I have a BLACK thumb how often should I water it? I really don't want to kill this one!!!

1 cup a week in direct sunlight. Keep it inside and in a dry warm place during the winter.

1 cup for every foot in height is a easy rule of thumb. Don't worry if you miss it sometimes. You can water it once every two weeks if you want it to stay the same size.

The only watering problem you will have is if you water it too much. Once a week or when the top of the soil fells dry should do it. Just make sure it gets allot of bright light. Near a sunny window.
