How many naps should he be taking every day, and how long should they be? I'm trying to get him on a schedule.

  1. usually 3 naps and the length varies greatly from baby to baby i let mine sleep until they woke up themselves

  2. This is pretty young to be on a schedule! My son didn't get close to having consolidated sleep patterns till about 5 months.  One of the things that Dr. Karp, author of Happiest Baby on the Block book says is that infants can only be awake for about 2 - 2 1/2 hours at a time. I found with my son that  he would wake up around 7 and be ready for a nap by 8:30, sleep a little, then be awake till about 10:30. You will probably have to be on the lookout for signs of your baby being sleepy.  A baby of 3 1/2 months needs about 15-16 hours of sleep between night and naps. Good luck getting him on a schedule and don't be disappointed if he's not ready for it yet.
