How often should a cat l**k his butt?

My 3 year old house cat seems l*****g his butt a lot. Both my son and I noticed that, it seems every time we turned around, our cat, Jing Zhang, was l*****g his butt.

He seems fine otherwise-- sleeping, running around, eat and enjoy the back porch.

check that he's peeing ok-cats with bladder crystals and cystisis l**k their 'bits' a lot as it is uncomfortable. or it could be worms making him itchy

As often as he needs to. If it is on a regular basis, i would investigate. Look for worms in his stool, see if there is swelling around the area, and check for stool in his hair. If all looks fine, i would not worry too much about it.

Not that much,could be a tape worm(from flea eggs) Please take him to the vet, what a nuisance for your pet..

if it's dirty he should l**k it.  if he's got long hair he could have some danglies in it.  My cats have long hair and i....um, how do i say this...trim his butt hair.  also, could he have intestinal parasites that are making his butt itch?

If a cat is grooming his back end a lot, you need to distinguish what he's grooming--is it his urethra or his a**s?  Diagnosis will depend on which one he's l*****g.  If urethra, then it can be FLUTD, a UTI, or stones.  If it's his a**s, he could be having problems with his anal sacs (2 little sacs on the inside of his r****m) being clogged, he could have worms, he could have old p**p stuck there that he's trying to clean, etc.  The fact that he's l*****g back there is a signal that something may be going on and you should have your vet check it out.  If it is urinary related, those could be big problems and DO require treatment. If a stone is blocking the ureters, that can be an emergent situation.  So, don't hesitate, and call your vet and get him in.  Better to be safe than sorry.
