How often should a laptop battery be replaced?

id just buy one when it starts not holding a charge, or doesnt at least last about 50% as long as it used to.

when it over heats or doesnt have that much life (dies sooner that it used to)

As a rule of thumb, I replace the battery when the running time on the battery drops below an hour on a full charge

There is no need to replace it unless it stops working to your satisfaction, unfortunatly laptop batteries don't tend to last much more than a few hours unplugged, without charging them, so don't expect days of work without  a socket...  

If you are worrying about cost, don't.

Laptop batteries are quite cheap, and you may find that they are under waranty and you can claim a free or discounted one :)

I wouldn't replace it until it stops holding a charge.  Laptop batteries are fairly expensive, at least for my Dell.

probably 2-3 years

i just bought a new one after 2 years

mine magically just died!

and i couldn't use my laptop for like a week

so don't let that happen to you!

depends on how often you use it really i had mine a year and it is still good . to make them last never leave it plugged up for ages, if im at home i remove the battery and plug in the power cord or else they over charge and die real quick
