  1. I do take a little off every time if it is salt water. Not sure about fresh.

I also change the line every year to three, depending on how much fishing I was able to do.

    Hope this helps.

  2. I fish fresh water and always change my line at the begining of each year.Unless the line has gotten over stressed. Then I change that right a way.

  3. Taking off line is actually overrated. Many fishing stores say that you should peel off a certain amount of line every 24 hours in the water, because they want money and they are really serious and fishing is their main expense.

HOWEVER the line doesn't simply break because of how long it has been in the water. It gets discolored and after a REALLY long time it might get brittle.

20 or 30 ft of line getting peeled off is a waste of time and money. At that rate, you will be out of line before you know it.

  4. WHO CARES? FISHING IS SO STUPID & BORING.

  5. It will certainly not hurt to peel off some line after you fish, but you don't have to do it every time.  Twenty or thirty feet is not needed unless you are surf-casting or in rocky areas.

Check the line to see if it is damaged in any way. It is certainly cheaper to buy new line than to buy new tackle.

If your fishing day was uneventful, it's no biggie if you don't even take off a little, but if you had a fight with a fish that was a little larger than your line is rated for, hey, better safe than sorry later. The line may be stressed and break easily next time you're out.

  6. every 5th or 6th fishing excursion you should rewind with new line

especially if you fish salt water
